A committee of retired Inspectors-General of Police on Tuesday paid a solidarity visit to the incumbent Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, reaffirming unity and institutional continuity within the Nigeria Police Force.
The meeting was attended by members of the Force Management Team, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police and other senior officers. Among the retired IGPs present were Aliyu Attah; Sunday Ehindero; Mike Okiro; Ogbonna Onovo; Suleiman Abba; and Mohammed Dikko Abubakar.
Addressing the gathering, IGP Egbetokun outlined key reforms implemented over the past two years. These include the upgrade of the Intelligence Unit to a full department, the elevation of the Legal and Medical Units to directorate status, and the expansion of Police Mobile Force squadrons from 74 to 84 nationwide. He also highlighted the creation of additional Area Commands and Divisions, as well as the establishment of a Special Intervention Squad aimed at strengthening operational response capacity.
The Inspector-General further emphasised merit-based promotions within the Force, noting that over 141,000 officers have been elevated under the current administration. He also cited the introduction of compulsory ethics training programmes designed to reinforce professionalism and accountability.
Speaking on behalf of the retired IGPs, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar commended the incumbent’s reform efforts and urged him to sustain the momentum. He also called on officers across ranks to support the ongoing transformation initiatives.
The visit underscored collaboration across generations of police leadership, reflecting a shared commitment to building a modern, trusted and capable Nigeria Police Force.
