Super Eagles and Fulham winger Samuel Chukwueze has suffered a huge personal loss after his mother passed away in the early hours of today, Soccernet.ng reports.
The news comes after the 26-year-old scored in Fulham’s 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend Chukwueze’s goal against Fabian Hurzeler’s side put his name back in the good books of Nigerians after he missed a spot kick in the AFCON 2025 semi-final against Morocco.
Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi, also just lost his father in a car accident two days ago, at the peak of Manchester United’s interest.
The news was confirmed after Chukwueze’s brother, David, took to his Instagram page to announce their mother’s demise.
According to multiple reports, their mother, Mrs Sarah Chukwueze, had been nursing an illness for a while before she finally passed on Thursday morning.
As per Oga Nla Media, Chukwueze took several trips from London to Italy to constantly check on his mother during her time at the hospital.
“Samuel Chukwueze has been dealing with a lot both on and off the pitch. His Mother has been sick for months, but he has stayed strong mentally,” the journalist wrote on his X page.
“A few times, he would finish a League match in England and fly immediately to Italy to check on his mother, who was in bed with an illness.”
It is expected that Fulham will give the Super Eagles winger some time off to properly grieve and prepare for the burial of his mother.
Meanwhile, English Premier League side Fulham have reportedly signed Norwegian attacker Oscar Bobb from Manchester City in a deal worth €27 million, exposing Nigerian winger, Samuel Chukwueze to a fresh threat.
The Cottagers have been in talks with the Premier League champions for weeks regarding the tricky 22-year-old winger.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, an agreement was finally reached on Wednesday. Bobb, known for his pace and technical proficiency, is expected to provide a significant boost to Fulham’s attacking options.
The signing comes at a critical point in the campaign. As the season enters its second half, the fixtures become more demanding and the stakes higher.
Fulham currently sit 7th in the Premier League table, just four points shy of a UEFA Champions League spot. With Bobb in the squad, the dream of European football feels increasingly attainable.
However, the Norwegian’s arrival may create stiff competition for the team’s other left-footed forwards, most notably Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze.
With the deal for Oscar Bobb finalized, Fulham’s existing wingers will likely be on high alert. Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze, in particular, will need to maintain his high standards to keep his place in the starting XI.
