Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on citizens to take collective responsibility for protecting the environment by adopting clean and sustainable energy practices.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Clean Energy, the First Lady described environmental protection as a shared duty that requires the active involvement of individuals and institutions across the country.

Speaking on the theme, “Clean Energy for People and Planet,” Tinubu stressed the urgent need to support renewable energy solutions to safeguard public health and secure the future of the planet.

“I urge us all to embrace renewable energy and sustainable technologies as an essential foundation for survival, healthy living, and environmental stewardship,” she said.

“Let us work together to build a greener, healthier planet for all.”

She also extended her goodwill message to Nigerians on the occasion of the global observance.

The International Day of Clean Energy, marked annually on January 26, was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution A/77/327. The initiative seeks to raise awareness and promote actions that support a fair, inclusive transition to clean energy systems that benefit both people and the environment.
