Foluke Stella Osafile, a first-term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I, has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Osafile, who chairs the House Committee on Wealth Creation, confirmed the defection on Monday, making her exit from the Labour Party official. She is currently the only opposition lawmaker in the 40-member Lagos Assembly.
“Yes, it is true. I have defected to the ADC,” she said, but declined to disclose the reasons behind her decision.
Elected in 2023, Osafile defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Folorunso Olaitan Segun, in a keenly contested race. Although the APC challenged her victory, she retained her seat after a successful legal battle at the Court of Appeal.
The lawmaker said she will formally announce her defection on the floor of the House during plenary.
“Don’t worry, I will announce it during plenary soon,” she added.
Her defection is expected to further reshape the political dynamics within the Lagos State Assembly.
