In furtherance of his commitment to youth empowerment and community development, the Executive Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo, has engaged local youths to carry out the clearing of gutters and drainage channels on Olaide Benson Street, Maryland, and Ibadiaran Street.
The initiative, which involves youths drawn from Onigbongbo LCDA, is aimed at empowering young people economically while addressing critical environmental and sanitation challenges within the council area.
According to the Chairman, the programme is designed to equip, mobilise, and provide meaningful employment opportunities for youths, ensuring they are actively involved in community-based development projects. He added that the participating youths will be duly compensated by the council for their services.
Hon. Adebanjo reiterated that youth empowerment remains a key pillar of sustainable development, noting that engaging young people in such initiatives not only provides income but also fosters a sense of responsibility, ownership, and pride in their immediate environment.
The drainage clearing exercise is expected to improve water flow, reduce the risk of flooding, enhance environmental hygiene, and promote the safety and well-being of residents in the affected areas.
