Suspected gunmen have killed a police officer and abducted a Chinese expatriate during an attack on Aqua Triton Company located in the Ogunmakin area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident was confirmed on Saturday by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, in a statement issued in Ibadan, the state capital.

According to the police, the assailants stormed the facility in what was described as a commando-style operation, leading to a fierce confrontation with security personnel on duty.

“There was an attack at Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, Oyo State, where yet-to-be-identified gunmen invaded the premises,” the statement said.

“One police officer was tragically killed while repelling the attack after reportedly injuring some of the assailants, and the Chinese expatriate principal of the company was abducted.”

Following the attack, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, ordered an immediate security response. The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations was directed to lead the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical teams to the scene.

The police disclosed that a bush-combing operation is currently ongoing in the area, while a full-scale investigation has been launched to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted expatriate and the arrest of those responsible.
