Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday confirmed the killing of five National Park Service Forest Guard officers following a bandit attack at the National Park Office in Oloka Village, Oyo State.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook account, the governor described the incident as a “criminal attack by bandits” and a devastating loss of personnel who died in the line of duty. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased officers and prayed for the repose of their souls.

Governor Makinde disclosed that preliminary investigations by security agencies indicate the attack was cross-border in nature. He added that relevant security outfits are collaborating to address the situation and have intensified efforts to track the perpetrators. The governor also called on residents in the affected areas to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful intelligence.

Appealing for calm, the governor assured residents—particularly those in Oriire Local Government Area and other border communities—that normalcy has been restored. According to him, additional security personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent further incidents.

Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that the state government would take decisive measures to forestall a recurrence of such attacks.
