The quarter-final picture of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 became complete on Tuesday following Algeria’s hard-fought qualification from the Round of 16.
Seven of the eight quarter-finalists had already been confirmed before Algeria joined the elite group with a dramatic 1–0 extra-time victory over DR Congo in Rabat. Substitute Anis Boulbina proved decisive, scoring in the 119th minute to send the Desert Foxes into the last eight, where they will face Nigeria.
Nigeria had earlier booked their quarter-final place on Monday night with a dominant 4–0 triumph over Mozambique. Victor Osimhen was the standout performer, netting twice as the Super Eagles cruised into the next round.
Senegal, Mali, hosts Morocco, Cameroon and Egypt had all previously secured their spots in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, defending champions Côte d’Ivoire completed the quarter-final line-up after a commanding 3–0 victory over Burkina Faso on Tuesday night in Marrakesh. Goals from Amad Diallo (20th minute), Yan Diomandé (32nd) and a late strike by Bamba Touré (87th) sealed a convincing win for the Elephants.
The result sets up a blockbuster quarter-final showdown between Côte d’Ivoire and Egypt on Saturday in Agadir, as the Ivorians continue their quest for back-to-back AFCON titles.
