The Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode has refused to grant an interim injunction sought by an aspirant to the Awujale of Ijebuland stool, Otunba Wasiu Olasunkanmi Ayinde Adesanya Marshall, KWAM1 , to halt the ongoing succession process.
Delivering the ruling on Monday, the presiding judge of High Court 3, Ijebu-Ode Judicial Division, Justice A. A. Omoniyi, held that the application for interim relief lacked merit and therefore declined the request.
Marshall had approached the court seeking an order restraining the Ogun State Government and other respondents from taking further steps toward the selection of a new Awujale pending the determination of his substantive suit.
However, while refusing the interim injunction, the court ordered an accelerated hearing of the main suit in the interest of justice. Justice Omoniyi consequently fixed January 14, 2026, for the commencement of proceedings on the substantive matter.
The applicant is contesting the Awujale succession process, alleging violations of the Ogun State Chieftaincy Law as well as an infringement of his constitutional right to fair hearing.
The court’s decision clears the way for the succession process to continue, pending the outcome of the substantive suit.
