The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on December 17, 2025, formally presented the Year 2026 Appropriation Bill, tagged “Budget of Better Days 1.0,” to the Ikeja Legislative Council at the Council’s Legislative Building.
In his address, AKOD said the budget was the product of an inclusive and transparent process, involving extensive community stakeholders’ engagements, a budget retreat and wide consultations aimed at reflecting the genuine needs and aspirations of Ikeja residents.
Describing the proposal as a consolidation of his administration’s gains and a pathway to sustainable growth, the chairman disclosed that the total budget size for the 2026 fiscal year stands at ₦13,923,882,601.48.
According to him, Recurrent Expenditure is estimated at ₦7,350,523,690.96, representing 52.8 per cent of the budget, and is designed to support effective governance, personnel welfare, maintenance of public facilities and uninterrupted service delivery. Capital Expenditure is projected at ₦6,573,358,910.52, accounting for 47.2 per cent, to drive visible development and long-term impact across the local government.
AKOD outlined the sectoral distribution of the capital component, with 26.8 per cent allocated to works and infrastructure, 7.09 per cent to education, 4.08 per cent to the environment, 4.80 per cent to health, and 5.03 per cent to other human capital development sectors, including youth empowerment, women development, social welfare and skills acquisition programmes.
He stressed that the Budget of Better Days 1.0 is people-centred, realistic and development-driven, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline, accountability and value for money in project execution.
The budget presentation was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore; management staff led by the Council Manager, Mrs. Juliana Taiwo Odubeko; the Head of Department, Budget, Dr. Anita Yemisi Razak; heads of departments and units; party leaders; and members of the Ikeja LGA Executive Committee led by Alhaji Adekunle Dally-Adeokun and his deputy, Prince Oluranti Olufon.
Also present were APC apex leaders, including Chief Funso Ologunde and Apostle Olowoporoku, alongside other party stakeholders, as well as the Lagos State APC Assistant Legal Adviser, Barrister Adebola Ladigbolu.
Responding on behalf of the Legislative Council, the Leader of the House, Hon. Ogunseye Rasheed Adisa, commended the chairman for the clarity and people-oriented focus of the budget and assured that councillors would expedite its vetting and approval in the interest of Ikeja residents.
The event ended on a note of unity and shared commitment to delivering good governance and sustainable development across Ikeja Local Government.
