The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused opposition parties of growing desperation ahead of the 2027 general elections, alleging that they are seeking what it described as “political immunity” from scrutiny, accountability and public judgment.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Lagos APC Spokesman, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, the party said it observed with “amusement and concern” what it characterised as the opposition’s inability to present credible ideas, defend past records in office or offer a coherent alternative vision for Nigeria.
According to the APC, opposition figures now resort to claims of persecution whenever they are confronted with public interrogation or accountability, describing the trend as an attempt to gain power without responsibility and relevance without performance.
“The desperation of the opposition has reached a point where it is clear they are not only afraid of accountability but also of their own records,” the statement said. “Rather than seek public validation, they now seek political cover, attempting to blackmail the government into granting an illegal and immoral immunity that has no place in a constitutional democracy.”
The party maintained that the APC-led government would not be pressured into shielding any political actor from scrutiny, stressing that immunity could not be used as a campaign strategy and that narratives of persecution would not erase documented failures.
The Lagos APC further accused opposition leaders of hypocrisy, noting that individuals who previously supported probes and sanctions now describe similar actions as witch-hunts when accountability efforts are directed at them. It said Nigerians remain aware of past governance failures and would resist any attempt to recycle political actors associated with what it termed institutional decay and economic mismanagement.
“As 2027 approaches, Nigerians are no longer interested in emotional blackmail, recycled faces or political actors seeking platforms that promise protection rather than progress,” the statement added, insisting that democracy does not confer immunity from public interrogation.
Reaffirming support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC said the government remains focused on economic stabilisation, security reforms, institutional rebuilding and repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth.
The party concluded that the 2027 elections would be contested on records, ideas, courage and capacity, not on entitlement to immunity, warning that no amount of public outrage would shield failure from judgment.
