Troops of Sector 5 under Operation PEACE SHIELD have achieved a significant breakthrough in Kaduna State with the rescue of 10 kidnapped victims and the recovery of arms, ammunition and ransom funds from fleeing criminals.
The operation was launched following the abduction of several women from their farms at Ungwan Nungu, Sanga Local Government Area, on 29 November 2025. Troops immediately commenced a coordinated search-and-rescue mission across the area.
According to military authorities, at about 0640 hours on 5 December 2025, troops made direct contact with the kidnappers as they attempted to collect ransom money from relatives of the victims. The criminals, confronted by the superior firepower of the soldiers, fled into the surrounding forests, abandoning the hostages.
All 10 victims—comprising one adult male, three male children, three elderly women and three female children—were rescued unharmed. They have since been debriefed and reunited with their families, bringing relief to the affected community.
During the operation, troops recovered one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one round of 9mm ammunition, and ₦1,600,000, confirmed as part of the ransom money earlier demanded by the abductors.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding citizens and ensuring that criminal groups are denied the freedom to operate across the country. It assured residents that operations will continue until communities in Kaduna and beyond are fully secure.
