2027: Lagos APC Dismisses ADC’s Allegation of Early Campaigning by President Tinubu

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has begun early preparations for the 2027 elections despite the country’s current security challenges.

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has begun early preparations for the 2027 elections despite the country’s current security challenges.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the party’s spokesman, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, described the ADC’s position as “misguided,” insisting that President Tinubu remains fully focused on governance and ongoing national security interventions.

Oladejo said the ADC’s criticism stemmed from “a misunderstanding of the responsibilities of leadership,” adding that presidential communication, nationwide engagement, and policy direction should not be misconstrued as campaign activities.

APC Accuses ADC of Politicising Security Concerns

The statement accused the ADC of attempting to exploit the nation’s security concerns for political gain. According to the APC, the President has intensified multiple security reforms, including the deployment of additional personnel, expansion of intelligence capabilities, and the removal of long-standing operational bottlenecks.

The party said President Tinubu has taken “direct charge” of several security operations and is “firmly confronting elements undermining the country’s stability,” contrasting this with what it described as the ADC’s lack of contribution to national security discourse.

APC: Governance Should Not Be Confused With Campaigning

The Lagos APC stressed that governance cannot be placed on hold to accommodate what it called “unfounded criticisms,” arguing that active leadership does not equate to political campaigning.

“The President must continue to communicate and provide direction daily. Governance does not pause because of the discomfort of opposition parties,” the statement noted.

Party Counters 2027 Election Speculations

Oladejo also addressed the ADC’s reference to the 2027 general elections, stating that it was premature and unnecessary. He argued that while the APC is focused on fulfilling its mandate, opposition parties should avoid “election-related distractions” and instead build credible structures capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.

APC Reaffirms Support for Tinubu’s Mandate

The statement concluded by reaffirming the party’s confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, noting that ongoing reforms are aimed at restoring security and stabilising the country.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to steering Nigeria through current challenges. No amount of political commentary will derail his mandate,” the Lagos APC said.
