OAU Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulgafar Oyeweso, Dies at 64

The Chairman of Council and Pro-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Prof. Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso, has passed away at the age of 64.

The Chairman of Council and Pro-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Prof. Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso, has passed away at the age of 64.

The announcement was made in a statement by Olawale Oyeweso, on behalf of the family, on Tuesday in Ile-Ife. According to the statement, Prof. Oyeweso died at a hospital following a successful surgery earlier in the day.

> “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and brother, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Prof. Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso departed this life on Tuesday, Dec. 2nd at the age of 64 after a brief illness,” the statement read.

Prof. Oyeweso was a renowned professor of history, educator, and mentor, whose work positively impacted countless students, colleagues, and political associates. He is survived by his wife, children, and other family members.

His remains are scheduled to be laid to rest at his country home in Ede at 4 p.m. today after Solar Ashri.
