President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, for the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit and his onward journey to Luanda, Angola, for the 7th AU–EU Summit, following fresh security concerns in Kebbi and Kwara states.

A State House statement on Wednesday revealed that the President is awaiting additional security briefings on the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In response to a request from the Kwara State Governor, President Tinubu directed the immediate deployment of additional military and police personnel to Eruku and surrounding communities. He also ordered security agencies to pursue the attackers responsible for the church incident.

The President was scheduled to depart Abuja today for the two high-level international engagements but chose to suspend his travel due to what the Presidency described as “disturbing security breaches.”

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented the President during a sympathy visit to Kebbi, is expected to present a comprehensive report on the situation. The police and Department of State Services are also preparing detailed updates on the Kwara attack.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his instruction to security agencies to “do everything possible” to rescue the 24 abducted schoolgirls and ensure their safe return.

The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
