The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the death of a male driver following a lone road accident that occurred late Sunday night at Chief Yesufu Abiodun Street, Oniru, by Sandfill Bus Stop, Maroko, Lagos.

According to a preliminary report released by the Agency and signed by its Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the accident was reported through the State’s 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency Lines at about 11:33 p.m., prompting immediate activation of the State’s Emergency Response Plan from the Lekki Base.

Upon arrival of LASEMA’s response team at 11:46 p.m., a Nissan saloon car with registration number LND 738 FQ was found to have been involved in a lone crash.

Preliminary investigations attributed the cause of the accident to a mechanical failure (brake failure), which caused the vehicle—traveling at high speed—to somersault multiple times before crashing into a streetlight pole.

Unfortunately, the yet-to-be-identified adult male driver was confirmed dead at the scene.

LASEMA disclosed that the remains of the deceased have been bagged and handed over to officers of the Nigerian Police Force, Maroko Division, while the accident vehicle and the crash scene have also been formally transferred to the police for further investigation.

Responders at the scene included the LASEMA Response Team (Lekki Base), the LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care Unit, and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Maroko Division.

LASEMA confirmed that recovery operations have been successfully concluded.
