The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on Thursday joined family members, friends, and dignitaries at the Commendation Service held in honour of the late Surv. (Chief) Olukunle Akinola, FRICS, DFNIS, who passed on at the age of 94.
The service, which took place at the Bola Memorial Anglican Church, Ikeja, was an atmosphere of solemn reflection and gratitude, as tributes poured in celebrating the remarkable life and enduring legacy of the late elder statesman, revered as Lagos State’s first Surveyor-General.
In his remarks, Comrade Dauda described the late Chief Akinola as “a man of discipline, character, and great purpose whose professional excellence and humility left an indelible mark on Lagos and Nigeria.”
He extended heartfelt condolences to the Akinola family, urging them to take solace in the impactful and fulfilled life their patriarch lived.
“Chief Akinola’s life exemplified service, integrity, and dedication — values we continue to uphold under the I.K.E.J.A. AGENDA for purposeful leadership and community advancement,” AKOD said.
The late Chief Olukunle Akinola, a respected Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS) and Distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (DFNIS), was celebrated for his pioneering role in public service and his mentorship to younger professionals in the field of surveying.
The Commendation Service featured hymns, prayers, and touching tributes from associates who recalled his humility, generosity, and commitment to God and humanity.

A solemn Wake Keep and Night of Tributes in honour of the late Surveyor (Chief) Olukunle Akinola, FRICS, DFNIS, was held at his residence, 3 Olukunle Close, behind the Post Office, Ipaja.
The service, hosted by St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, featured hymns, prayers, and heartfelt eulogies from family, friends, and associates who remembered his humility, generosity, and unwavering devotion to God and humanity.
Children, grandchildren, mentees, and well-wishers also paid glowing tributes to the late pioneer Surveyor-General of Lagos State, describing him as a disciplined, time-conscious, and deeply compassionate leader who touched countless lives through his selfless service and mentorship.
May the soul of Surv. (Chief) Olukunle Akinola rest in perfect peace.
