A dispatch rider was tragically crushed to death by a moving train on Thursday morning at the PWD Railway Level Crossing in Ikeja, Lagos State.

Eyewitnesses said the rider attempted to cross the railway tracks despite the approaching train, leading to the fatal accident that caused panic among motorists and residents in the area.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), alongside emergency responders, quickly arrived at the scene to control traffic and evacuate the victim’s remains.

In a statement issued after the incident, LASTMA renewed its appeal to motorists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians to exercise caution and strictly obey traffic rules, especially at railway level crossings and other high-risk points.

The agency warned that ignoring warning signals and barriers at crossings poses grave danger to lives and property, stressing that safety should always take precedence over haste.

“Motorists must always wait for the train to pass before crossing. No hurry is worth a human life,” LASTMA stated.

The tragedy has once again brought to the fore the urgent need for improved safety measures and public awareness at railway crossings across Lagos State.
