Lagos Government Disowns FESTAC Demolition, Warns Against Unauthorised Actions

The Lagos State Government has distanced itself from the recent demolition of structures in FESTAC Town, stating categorically that it had no involvement in the exercise.

The Lagos State Government has distanced itself from the recent demolition of structures in FESTAC Town, stating categorically that it had no involvement in the exercise.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, made this clarification on Tuesday at Alausa, Ikeja, following widespread speculation linking the State Government to the operation.

Olumide stressed that Lagos operates a transparent and structured process for any demolition activity, which includes the issuance of statutory notices and engagement with affected stakeholders before enforcement.

He cautioned all organisations, including federal agencies, to seek clearance from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development before embarking on any demolition within the state.

“We want to assure residents that the Lagos State Government remains committed to fairness, due process, and the protection of property rights. Any demolitions carried out without proper authorisation do not represent the policy or practice of this administration,” he stated.
