The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his bold and compassionate decision to grant state pardon to nationalist icon Herbert Macaulay, former lawmaker Farouk Lawan, and 173 others — describing the move as a milestone in justice, reconciliation, and national healing.

In a statement signed by the party’s spokesperson, Hon. (Mogaji) Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC said President Tinubu’s action exemplifies the highest ideals of leadership — fairness, humanity, and statesmanship.

According to the statement, the presidential gesture “goes beyond symbolism” as it underscores the administration’s belief in restorative justice and the unifying power of forgiveness. “By honouring Herbert Macaulay, one of Nigeria’s founding fathers, President Tinubu has corrected a historical wrong and reaffirmed the dignity of those who laid the foundation for our national freedom,” the party noted.

For the living beneficiaries, the pardon represents a new dawn of hope, reintegration, and redemption — a testament that democracy thrives best when justice is tempered with mercy.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda is not limited to infrastructure and economic transformation,” the statement emphasized, “it is equally about building a fair, humane, and inclusive society.”

The Lagos APC commended President Tinubu for “leading with heart, courage, and vision,” adding that his decision reflects true leadership — one that heals wounds, strengthens national unity, and restores faith in Nigeria’s justice system.

“A nation’s greatness,” the statement concluded, “lies not only in how it punishes, but also in how it forgives.”
