The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has revealed that police operatives across the country arrested a total of 4,383 suspects for various serious offences in two months spanning 31st July and 23rd September 2025.
Egbetokun said this while highlighting the Force’s operational achievements over the last two months at a Strategic Police Officers’ Conference with senior officers of the ranks of AIGs and CPs at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja on Tuesday, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force spokesperson said in a statement.
The conference served as a platform for performance review, strategic planning, and operational recalibration as the Force moves into the last quarter of the year.
Specifically, Egbetokun revealed that police operatives arrested 481 armed robbery suspects, 260 kidnappers and 371 suspects for murder or culpable homicide during the two months.
He further revealed that 161 suspects were arrested for unlawful possession of firearms, 322 for rape 375 for cultism and 2,413 others for other crimes during the period.
He added that in the same period, 716 assorted firearms, 21,238 rounds of ammunition, and 212 vehicles were recovered, while 1,138 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued.
Speaking further, the IGP commended the visible improvement in Command posture, tactical responses, and supervisory presence across the country since the last conference held in July.
He noted that the gains have contributed to increased public confidence and operational successes. He emphasized that policing in Nigeria is facing complex, hybrid threats and charged the senior officers to adopt intelligence-driven strategies, seamless coordination, and visible leadership to stay ahead of criminal elements.
“Looking ahead to the final quarter of 2025, the IGP directed all Zonal AIGs and State Commands to activate multi-layered visibility policing frameworks, intensify community engagement efforts, and ensure proactive patrols of highways, feeder routes, and forest corridors, with particular attention to the “Ember Months” traditionally associated with increased crime rates.
“The conference concluded with renewed commitment from all senior officers to strengthen operational calendars for October to December 2025 and beyond, while maintaining a robust presence across their areas of responsibility, and sustaining the tempo of crime prevention and law enforcement efforts nationwide,” Hundeyin said in the statement.
