Mourning has once again beset the Lagos political sphere, with the passing of Hon. Mayabikan Kemi Basirat, Councillor representing Ward F in Somolu Local Government, a day after Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, died.

The Somolu 10th Legislative Council announced her passing on Sunday, which occurs mere weeks after the All Progressives Congress (APC) suffered the loss of two female councillors.
According to a statement signed by the Leader of the Somolu 10th Legislative Council, Hon. Oyeyiola Tunde James, the late Basirat was described as a courageous lawmaker, a voice of the people, and a shining example of selfless service.
The statement also acknowledged her tireless efforts in grassroots development, her courageous leadership, and her dedication to the people she served, which will be remembered forever.
The recent and unexpected passing of three elected female politicians within a short span has triggered an outpouring of grief across the Lagos APC family, prompting concerns among supporters regarding the party’s loss of female leaders at the grassroots.
Tragically, Princess Ajose, daughter of the Alapa of Apa Egun-Awori Kingdom, passed away on Saturday, barely two months into her tenure as Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA. The loss of her life followed that of another female councillor earlier in the year, heightening the sense of loss among party supporters.
