The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda, convened a strategic meeting with the executives of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Ikeja Chapter, led by Alhaji Mobolaji Ganiyu Isiaka, to address traffic challenges and indiscriminate parking around Ikeja, with the goal of finding a lasting solution to the gridlock impeding free movement within the metropolis.
During the meeting, Hon Dauda expressed concerns regarding the substantial man-hours lost to traffic congestion when entering and exiting Ikeja, emphasizing the detrimental impact on productivity, commercial activities, and overall business patronage in the area.
In response, the Union Executives acknowledged the concerns and appealed to the Chairman to facilitate the provision of a designated garage or park for buses, noting that the absence of such a facility has compelled bus operators to load and park indiscriminately along the roads, thereby exacerbating the congestion.
Chairman AKOD assured the Union of his prompt attention to the situation. He committed to utilizing his office to alleviate commuter burdens and enhance traffic flow, while also promising to address the request for a designated park.
Furthermore, he urged the Union executives to fully cooperate with government initiatives to ensure sustainable progress and tangible results.
In addition to other attendees, the Vice Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Hon. Abisola Omisore, was also present at the meeting.
