The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed as fake news a viral statement claiming that this year’s Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) has been cancelled.

WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Moyo Adesina, described the report—allegedly attributed to the Federal Ministry of Education—as “false, fictitious, and a figment of the imagination of its authors.”

Speaking on Sunday, Adesina told journalists that marking of scripts is almost completed and that results will be released soon.

She assured candidates and stakeholders that the Council would issue an official statement later today and urged the public to disregard the false report.
