Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday welcomed the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary, Mr. David Lammy, at the State House in Marina.

This courtesy visit, marking Lammy’s first trip to Africa, aimed to explore the UK’s new approach to relations with the continent.

Accompanied by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, and Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter, Lammy expressed the significance of Lagos as his first stop in Africa, highlighting the enduring socio-cultural and economic ties between Nigeria and the UK.

He noted the large number of Nigerian families with ties to the UK, underscoring the importance of mutual relations in trade, finance, and remittances.

Lammy described his mission as one of fostering deeper bilateral ties and expanding trade opportunities.

“Lagos, a dynamic economic hub for Nigeria and West Africa, exemplifies the vibrancy and potential we seek in our partnerships with Africa. This city’s values align with our commitment to mutual economic growth,” he said.
