… Says CBT is for Transparency, Credibility in Admissions Process
As part of its admissions process for the 2024/2025 academic session, the Lagos State College of Health Technology, Yaba (LASCOHET) has conducted a Computer-Based Test (CBT) entrance examination for over 1,100 candidates on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
Speaking at the Lagos State University (LASU) CBT Centre, the Provost of the College, Professor Raheem Olasupo Akewushola, emphasised that the entrance examination is designed to ensure merit and credibility in the admissions process, serving as a key criterion for student selection.
He noted that the LASU CBT Centre is a reputable facility accredited by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and widely recognised by numerous institutions, which is why the College opted to conduct its examination there.
Addressing the candidates before the commencement of the exam, Professor Akewushola urged them to conduct themselves responsibly, adhere strictly to the on-screen instructions, and follow the directives of the invigilators. He also warned against bringing cell phones into the examination hall, stating that any candidate found with prohibited items would face disciplinary action.
The Provost advised the candidates on effective time management, highlighting that the CBT system is programmed to log out candidates automatically once the exam time elapses. He encouraged them to use their time wisely and ensure they answered the questions thoroughly.
Speaking on the commitment to maintaining examination integrity, the Deputy Provost, Administration, Mrs. Uthman-Izobo Oyeronke, explained that the adoption of the CBT system is part of the College’s strategy to prevent examination malpractices. She added that CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor the entire process.
She further noted that students are well aware of the strict penalties for cheating and understand the lengths the Institution’s Management will go to punish offenders, thereby deterring others.
On the importance of eligibility and verification, the Dean of Admissions, Mr. Adesina Olatunde stated that the exercise is designed to uphold the academic standards of the Institution, ensure that the right candidates are sitting for the exam, and assess whether the candidates are both physically and mentally prepared for the courses they applied for.
He reaffirmed that the College’s principles regarding the admissions process would not be compromised, stressing that every candidate would undergo a rigorous selection process to maintain the Institution’s high standards.
To ensure smooth coordination and a seamless process, the candidates were divided into three batches with staggered time slots.
