It was a mixed fortune for the Nigeria 4X400 meter mixed relay team this evening at the Paris 2024 Olympics after they competed at the event in Paris.
The Nigerian quartet of Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Emmanuel Ifeanyi Ojeli and Patience Okon-George finished fourth in the heat and set a new national record of 3:11.99.
Unfortunately the fastest time ran by any Nigerian mixed quarter wasn’t enough as the narrowly missed out on a place in the final, despite their gallant effort.
The Great Britain who won in a National Record of 3:10.61, while Netherlands finished 2nd in a time of 3:10.81 and Italy 3rd in 3:11.59 which proved very decisive in the final ranking.
The Nigeria team finished ninth on the final step out of the best 8 finishers with the Italians clinching the last qualification slot.
