In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Lagos Eko Lions Club, the executives donated gadgets, equipment and other items to the Female Medical Ward of the Lagos General Hospital Odan, on Broad Street, Lagos on Friday.
The over 5 million-naira worth of high-quality items donated include; Cardiac monitor, 2 Wheel chairs, 2 Pulse oximeters, 2 Sygnomamometer, 2 Ward screen, 2 Infrared thermometer, 2 Weighing scales, 2 Oxygen gauge, 25 Bed sheets, 2hp Tower Air conditioner and other gadgets.
In his opening remark during the presentation, President of the Lagos Eko Lions Club, Lion Olutosin Oyenusi stated that rather than partying to celebrate the club’s 40th anniversary they’ve opted for the adoption and branding project of the Female Medical Ward of the General Hospital Odan.
He narrated that when he first met with the Medical Director of the hospital that she raised an observation that “I hope this is not like a mirage that we see you now and we don’t see you again?”
Lion Oyenusi noted that he assured her of the commitment of the Lagos Eko Lions Club to adopt and support the Female Medical Ward of the hospital.
He expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the management of the General Hospital for accepting their initiative and gesture.

On behalf of the Club, Lion Oyenusi assured the Management in his words; “for us these are our assurance, this isn’t just one-off and it’s not a mirage, it will outlive my tenure, by June this year I’ll be passing the baton to the new president”.
“For us it has become tradition, we’ve traditional projects in my club, the Lagos Eko Lions Club, so this General Hospital Odan Female Medical Ward has become another traditional project and we’ve adopted to continue our support to maintain the ward by the grace of God”.
“For me, I’m passionate about this and I will ensure that my club take it very seriously”.
“Today we’ve come to make this presentation and we’ll continue to maintain our support, thank you very much” Lion Oyenusi concluded”.

In her response after the donation, Chief Medical Director/CEO, General Hospital, Odan, Dr Abiola Mafe, thanked the Lions Club for their support.
She highlighted the importance of each and every item donated especially the air-condition and the cardiac monitor, noted that they have just one apiece in the ward and the donated items are well appreciated and gave three resounding gbosa to the Lions Club.
Thereafter, Lion Oyenusi led his team in rendering the Lions anthem to the admiration of the Medical Director and her management team
The First Vice Governor District 404 A3, Lion Shade Shotomide in a chat with Lagos Panorama at the event said “as an organization, Lions Club International we meet the need of the masses, after community assessment, we came into the hospital and we realized they’ve needs, and try to meet their needs. Instead of cooking jollof-rice and enjoying ourselves, we felt we should touch lives, so that’s what informed this donation, since there are needs in this hospital, we felt it’s better to meet their needs rather than felicitating among ourselves”.
She also affirmed that the support to the hospital is a continuous process “for us it’s a continuous process because where there’s a need, there’s always a lion”.
Also in attendance were Lion Gbemi Shittu, Lion Talabi Jamiu and a host of other Lions from both local and other districts.
