WAFCON 2024: Super Falcons beat Cape Verde 2-1, 7-1 aggregate to secure a ticket to Morocco

Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured their spot in the Morocco 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations with a 2-1 second leg win against Cape Verde in Praia and 7-1 aggregate triumph.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured their spot in the Morocco 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations with a 2-1 second leg win against Cape Verde in Praia and 7-1 aggregate triumph.

In the second leg of the encounter, the Cape Verdeans struck first in the eighth minute of the match through Ivania Moreira as the Falcons struggled to take their numerous chances.

The home team would hold on to the lead through the first half until Esther Okoronkwo pulled Nigeria level with a solo effort in the 60th minute.

The Falcons completed the comeback late when captain of the team Rasheedat Ajibade capped the victory 3 minutes into the stoppage time.

The win ensured Nigeria continued the unblemished record of featuring in all editions of the WAFCON since its inception in 1991.

The Falcons join South Africa, Ghana, Botswana, Morocco, Algeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tunisia and Senegal for the 15th edition of Africa’s premier women’s football competition.

Other qualified teams are Zambia, Tanzania and Mali.

The 2024 WAFCON is billed to be hosted by Morocco.
