The Nigerian Army has apprehended Philip Gokas, the alleged mastermind behind the brutal murder of Adamu Idris Gabdo, the Ardo of Panyam in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The troop, in a statement on Wednesday, disclosed that the arrest took place in the Ogba area of Lagos State after weeks of persistent efforts to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Gokas, also known as Jaykimo, was arrested while enjoying himself and consuming beer at a football viewing centre during his arrest.

“Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) Tactical Team The arrest of Mr. Philip Gokas also known as Jaykimo in Lagos State was following weeks of painstaking manhunts to bring the criminal to Justice,” the army said.

“The relentless pursuit by OPSH led to his tracking and subsequent arrest in the Ogba area of Lagos State, where he was found enjoying himself and drinking beer at a football viewing centre.”

The suspect has reportedly confessed to the crime, providing crucial information that is expected to lead to the arrest of additional individuals involved in the heinous act.

This development, according to the troop, serves as a clear warning to criminals that they cannot elude justice as security agencies retain the capacity and resilience to utilise all elements of national power to hold them accountable as directed by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. CG Musa.

Following the murder of the Ardo of Panyam, Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja directed OPSH to recover the deceased’s body, which was accomplished by the tactical team in a remote area of Bauchi State.

The troops stated that they had handed over the body to the family for burial.
