The Lagos State Local Government Service Commission Board made it statutory visitation to Eti-Osa Local Government on Thursday, 27th of July, 2023.

The Commission team, ably led by Hon. Hakeem Adisa Bamgbola, Commissioner 1 representing Lagos division, who also was representing the Local Government Service Commission Chairman, Hon. Kamal Ayinde Bayewu, who was unavoidably absent, paid a familiarisation visit to Eti-Osa Local Government, on Thursday, July 27, 2023.
Hon. Bamgbola in his address, complimented the staff and the political office holders for constantly maintaining a good working relationship for the development of the Local Government.
May be an image of 6 people, dais and textThe Vice Chairman, Omooba Adeola Adetoro Adeyanju, welcomed the distinguished guests to the hospitable Local Government on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Saheed Adesegun Bankole who was also unavoidably absent. In his welcome Address read by the able vice, the LG boss appreciated the efforts of the LGSC team for the bi-annual visitation in the bid to ensure effective and functional workforce and operations in all LGs and LCDAs.
He further commended the management team and entire staff of Eti-Osa for their constant supports and dedication towards a progressive Eti-Osa. He assured the team that he would not relent in providing a conducive work environment and welfare to the LG workforce, as that is his utmost concern. He however mentioned the building of the ongoing Multipurpose Office Complex, meant for the comfort of the workforce(both political office holders and administrative staff) which is expected to be completed by December of this year.
Hon. Ahmed Ayinde Seriki, Commissioner II, representing Epe Division, stated that there is a growing concern on the rise in the mortality rate of civil servants and in view of this the commission is sensitizing staff on the need to constantly carry out a health check, he urged the MOH to set up a chart for staff to track the periods when they have to check their vitals individually.” He urged staff to take good care of themselves because Health is Wealth. “It is only the living and healthy that can work and perform optimally”, he said.
Hon. Seriki, further highlighted the importance of having a functional ICT unit, and the need to regularly train staff on the use of computer hardware and software. Noting that Eti-osa is an untapped tourism hub, he encouraged the tourism unit to identify emerging tourist activities within the community that could make the unit more active and generate revenue for the Local Government.

The Director, Local Government Establishment and Training Office – Mrs Oluwatosin Adegun, who represented the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Bibilomo Olusekun stressed the need for deployment of public officers who have used ten years or more than in a Local Government. She urged staffers to embrace these deployments and not see it as a witch hunt but for career enhancement.
She laid emphasis on staff training and career management. Seeking the support of the Local Government on sponsoring more officers willing to go for career advancement. She stressed the need for self improvement and harnessing the opportunities available to upskill with free training resources online. She also highlighted the need for knowledge sharing among staff in career-specific training.
She also pointed out the need to celebrate retiring officers who have spent 35years in Service or Aged 60 years, stressing that it will be an honour to them and a state representative should be invited to grace the occasion, also on the need to allow them to invite a few of their immediate family members to make their day more special.
The Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Obadina Akinbode, represented by the Director Recruitment, Discipline & Exit, Mr. Sedeton Ogabi also enlightened the staff on the need to write the commission to notify them six months before retiring, a reachable phone number, traceable address, updated details so as to facilitate quick payment of entitlements. Also stating that disciplinary action will always be taken according the dew process, encouraging staff to get familiar with stipulated guidelines in the civil service rule book.
The new Council Manager, Alhaja Latifat Toyin Balogun gave the vote of thanks. She showed gratitude towards the LGSC team for their interests in the wellbeing of the workforce in all LGs and LCDAs in Lagos State.
Notably present at the event also was the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) Hon.Idowu Badru, the Leader of the House, Hon. Ogunderu Bolaji Muftau, the Majority Leader, Hon. Maiyegun Afis, the chief whip, Hon. Towolawi Abayomi, the Chief Of Staff Mr. Sulaimon Adekanbi, Supervisor for Works, Hon. Maiyegun Abiodun, SA on Media, Mr. Tokunbo Ajayi, SSA on Special Duties, Mr. Jamiu Kehinde, Dir. Secretariat LGSC, Mrs Olatunde Rasheedat Mojisola, Dir. Estab., LG Estab and training, Mrs Olawuni Dada represented by Mr. Jimoh Ayinde, Dir. Procurement, Mr. Taofik Ambali, Assistant Dir. Secretariat, Mr. Adejumo Gbadegesin, Mr. Olusegun Micheal, PAO, Mrs Babatunde Kasum Iyabo,other members of the commission, Management staff and the entire staff of Eti-Osa LG were all in attendance at the meeting.
