President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday officially swore in Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The brief swearing-in ceremony took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and was attended by family members of the ministers, senior government officials, and other dignitaries.
The appointments followed the resignations of the former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions. President Tinubu subsequently nominated Tegbe and Enikanolaiye, both of whom were confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 2026.
Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, a native of Ibadan, Oyo State, brings more than 35 years of experience in fiscal, economic, and institutional reforms across both the public and private sectors. A distinguished professional, he holds a First-Class Degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, as well as Master’s degrees in Business Administration and Public Administration from institutions in Switzerland and Birmingham, respectively.
Before his appointment, Tegbe served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major transformational initiatives and policy reforms. His extensive career has seen him work with leading organisations, including the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Shell, Huawei, General Electric, MTN, and Odu’a Group, among others.
Also sworn in was Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, a seasoned diplomat from Igbagun, Kogi State. He earned a First-Class Degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he graduated as the best student in his faculty, and later obtained a Master’s Degree in International Law and Diplomacy with Distinction from the University of Lagos.
Enikanolaiye joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and rose through the ranks to become Permanent Secretary in 2016. He retired from the civil service in August 2017 after an illustrious 35-year career.
Throughout his diplomatic service, he represented Nigeria in key foreign missions, including Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi, where he served as Nigeria’s Head of Mission. Prior to his ministerial appointment, he was Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
A recipient of several prestigious honours, Ambassador Enikanolaiye has been recognised with the Presidential Civil Service Merit Award, the Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award, and the Distinguished Fellow Award of the National Defence College, among others.
The swearing-in of the two ministers underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening governance and advancing reforms in the critical sectors of power and foreign affairs.
